Maybelline: Lash Sensational // Review

22:37

Good afternoon! Today I am going to have a little chat about the much talked about Lash Sensational by Maybelline. I must admit, I am always a bit apprehensive when it comes to buying a certain product that has been plastered over the blogosphere and youtube solidly for the last few weeks. Although this time I gave in, generally this is how I like to roll. You know? To be free-minded? Haha! Who am I kidding? I'm such a sucker for a new launch or if I have read about it on someone else's blog, I am straight down to boots (or any other generic drug store) to stock up on so named goods!

I picked this up from Boots yesterday, so thought I would give it my first impressions and mini review for your enjoyment.

It comes in a bullet shaped plastic packaging which is a really pretty rose colour.

I believe the wand to be a standard length (whatever that is... has anyone every measure it?) and the bristles are plastic. The brush itself is very light and easy to work with. Maybelline says "our first patented fanning brush with 10 layers of bristles reveals a full flourish of lashes". So I decided to give this baby a go and show you all how I got on.

Natural lashes - Before application
Now, normally I would curl my lashes, but for the purposes of this I am willing to forgo my favourite part of my makeup routine..

Before I began photographing I applied everything that I normally would (didn't want to scare you all). This included; moisturiser, foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, powder and eyebrows.

(I will do a post on my normal make-up routine in the future for you all)

Obligatory mascara face

After one coat

I'm very lucky, because my natural lashes are quite long anyway, but I wouldn't say they have much of a curl to them. The mascara did a amazing job of coating my lashes with just one swish of the wand. Get it?

I do have a massive problem with mascara migrating both north and south of my eyes throughout the day, but with this one I had no problems at all. It's not one of those mascaras that leaves your lashes super spiky, nor super soft. Just somewhere nice in between. At first I thought it was going to be one of those clumpy ones?... But I was so wrong! It lengthened my lashes, seperated them and this might (I said might) even persuade me to leave lash curling out of my routine. From the photos below, you can see quite a big difference from just one coat. It opened my eye up and I feel it gave my eye much more definition.

Before and after comparision

Removing it was a bit of a different story though. I used what I use every evening, which is Garnier micellar water followed by Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm. Although the balm removes EVERYTHING you could ever want to not have on your face, when using the micellar water I found the mascara to become a bit scratchy and took a few goes before it was finally removed fully. You win some, you lose some I guess?....

Overall I would give this mascara a massive congrats. Firstly for showing me that not all plastic wands are evil things to be stuck in your eye every time you try and do your mascara. Secondly, for making me question my need for the extra step in my routine. I will definitely be adding this to my daily make up routine and if your in the market for a new mascara, I reckon you should give it a whirl too!

Maybelline Lash Sensational retails at several different stockists. So for a full list of these, head on over to the Maybelline website here for more info. Alternatively, you can get it at boots for £7.99.

Have you tried this mascara? What are your thoughts? I hope you liked this post.

See you soon!
